It’s been reported at Bruce Springsteen.net that guitarist Tom Morello will be taking Steve Van Zandt’s place during the upcoming Australian leg of the Wrecking Ball Tour. The move was made necessary because of Van Zandt’s previous commitments for filming the television show Lilyhammer.
This will certainly get the fans’ tongues wagging. Morello’s guest appearances at past E Street shows (the highlight of which is a mind-melting solo during the electrified version of “Ghost Of Tom Joad”) has set off discussions on topics ranging from Morello’s chops to Nils Lofgren’s ego (read: Does this piss off Mr. Lofgren?) to the question of whether or not Steve Van Zandt has “lost it.” People are always looking for some sort of conflict so most of the complaints and so-called controversies seem overblown to me.
Some may be distressed at the absense of Bruce’s long-time friend (I know I would be), but this is Bruce Springsteen we’re talking about here. I’d be expecting something special to happen each and every night.
