Projekt Gemineye, “Magic World” from ‘In the Year 3073: Book I’ (2019): Sneak Peek

Projekt Gemineye returns on Oct. 25, 2019 with In the Year 3073: Book 1, the first of a two-part epic. Like all those which have proceeded it, this Projekt Gemineye album is the brainchild of Canadian progressive / metal guru Mark Anthony K.

To whet our appetite, the first single is out now via Bandcamp. “Magic World” displays K’s flair for melodic riffs and ’70s-era synth patches, with healthy doses of heavy guitars and booming bass – and again, that’s in keeping with a prior sequence of Projekt Gemineye records which started with 2017’s An Ordinary Day.

The tricky acoustic guitar introduction immediately gives way to Mark Anthony K’s metallic lead guitar. What starts with touches of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd evolves into a fantastical outlook.

The time signature change after the first verse, with the accompanying Richard Wright-like synthesizer work, builds on the theme of magic and optimism. The interplay between the bass and drums further bolsters the progressive leanings of the lyrics, which are uplifting yet slightly cryptic.

“Magic World” works as a stand-alone statement on its own merits. The only downside is that we’ll have to wait until the end of October, when Projekt Gemineye’s In The Year 3073: Book 1 comes out, to discover how the entire project fits together.
