Tim Kuhl, “Wave (of Dreams), remixed by Wilco’s Mikael Jorgensen” (2015): Something Else! exclusive stream

Drum specialist and composer Tim Kuhl let loose his newest release 1982 last summer but we hadn’t heard the last of that album just yet, because he handed over a track to Wilco keyboardist Mikael Jorgensen for a little pixie dust remix job. That Soundcloud above is the world’s first taste of the results.

“Wave (of Dreams)” concluded 1982, a ‘vibe’ tune I previously described as “pillowy, Euro electro-pop.” Jorgensen recharacterized the track with the help of vocoder, underscored with the repeating phrase “waves of dreams” sung like Autotune cranked up to 11, and a on-again off-again dance groove. EDM isn’t something you might expect from Kuhl or a member of Wilco, but the transformation of the song is move-inducing and a little intriguing as well.

It’s also a signal that no areas of music are off limits for exploration by the multi-talented The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger drummer. Could a country version of “White (k)Night” be in the cards next? I wouldn’t rule it out.

Visit Tim Kuhl’s website for more on the artist and his music.
