In order to pump more publicity into the Initiative’s excellent self-titled debut album from 2013, the Australian band has been shooting videos in conjunction with each song. The band’s most recent, and last promotional campaign production is “It’s True,” featuring Grace Marino as lead singer.
A big ballad, “It’s True” explodes with emotional elasticity and really packs a punch. Grace Marino’s strong and charismatic vocals, which are speckled with echo, slip a surrealistic edge into the heartfelt performance, while slinky and stirring rhythms tool the song. The melodies are savory, and the band dynamics are indeed dynamic.
By approaching the song at a few different angles, a cosmopolitan piece of music has been created. Larger than life Broadway show overtones, extended by poppy jazz flashes and arty Pink Floyd styled atmospherics all play an important role in this moving song that’s both visually and sonically affective.
Although Grace Marino’s “It’s True” closes the lid on the Initiative’s cyberspace project, their album is still readily available, so make sure to pick up a copy if you haven’t yet done so. And in the meantime, keep your eyes and ears open for Grace’s forthcoming solo album, and hopefully there will be new music from the Initiative in the very near future as well.
