Julian Lennon talks about his future musical plans: ‘I want to do something different’

A new box set focusing on Everything Changes will likely be the last you hear of Julian Lennon musically for a while, as the well-regarded photographer and passionate philanthropist turns his attention to other pursuits.

“In many respects, this is something to keep everybody happy,” he tells ABC with a chuckle, “while I go off and do other charitable work and photography work. I mean, there will still be other musical projects here and there — but I don’t know about a full album, for some time.”

These tandem pursuits have kept him off the road for some 16 years, as well, though Lennon hasn’t put aside the idea of a return to concert halls. This time, however, he’d like to do it in a different way.

“My intention at some point, whether it’s next year or the year after — if I’m going to go out on the road, I want to do something different, something special and something really meaningful to me,” Lennon adds. “I had an incredible experience with the last tour, where I played with a full orchestra. Because a lot of my work is instrumental, and theatrical in many respects — filmic, if you will — it was the best show, I felt, that I’ve ever done. So, if I’m going to do this again, I’m going to do a sort of one-night-only special on behalf of my White Feather Foundation and local charities, to help in the cities that we play. So, I’m working on that, gearing up to that.”

Limited to 1,000 numbered copies, the Everything Changes box set includes his original album, an instrumental version, an acoustic version, a double-picture disc vinyl edition, a DVD called Through the Picture Window and a deluxe 36-page booklet.
