Geddy Lee admits he has no idea why Rush suddenly became cool: ‘It’s hard for me to have perspective’

With more than year between Rush and their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction, Geddy Lee admits that he still has trouble putting his finger on what precipitated their reversal in critical fortune.

For a time, it seemed, everything Rush did was derided. But more recently, acceptance turned their way. Suddenly, it wasn’t such a bad thing to be a Rush fan. And those fans rose up as one to power the popular vote in the band’s favor when the hall of fame ballots arrived.

What changed? Lee isn’t exactly sure. But he’s got a theory or two.

“It’s hard for me to have perspective on that,” Geddy Lee tells Terroni. “Most of our work is critically overlooked. Our fans have sustained us all these years and as time goes on we’ve become more critically accepted. So, either we’re getting better or our fans have become critics, one or the other. Anyway, it’s all gotten better over the last 20 years. For some reason we seem to be improving with age.”
