Fleetwood Mac reunion strengthens bond between Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie: ‘Quite surprising emotions’

Much is typically made of the link (musical and otherwise) between Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. Yet collaborations by Buckingham and Christine McVie have provided plenty of key musical moments since their careers first intersected in the mid-1970s.

That connection has been renewed with McVie’s recent reunion with the band and, in some ways, born anew. Fleetwood Mac began writing sessions for a planned Summer 2015 release — their first with Buckingham, Nicks and McVie since 1987’s Tango in the Night — with Nicks otherwise occupied. Suddenly, the old magic between McVie and Buckingham was rekindled.

“Because of Stevie’s absence, there’s been a very strong link musically between Lindsey and I, where we’ve actually been able to concentrate and co-write,” McVie tells HuffPost. “Some of the results of those fresh ideas were sort of unusual for me and Lindsey to co-write, anyway. We’ve done it together in the studio this time and have got some fantastic, quite profound, quite surprising emotions out of it. It knocked my socks off completely.”

Buckingham and McVie co-wrote “World Turning” from 1975’s Fleetwood Mac and a trio of songs from Tango in the Night, including “Mystified.” Their unique musical interplay also played signature role in songs like “Don’t Stop” from 1977’s Rumours, “Think About Me” from 1979’s Tusk, and “Hold Me” from 1982’s Mirage.
