After months of petitioning, and several impassioned pleas, Liza Lauser — wife of Sammy Hagar drummer David Lauser — has received the go-ahead to receive therapy that could save her life. The news on Lauser, who has a brain tumor, comes courtesy of bassist Michael Anthony, another of Hagar’s long-time bandmates.
“The FDA has granted her access to the experimental drug ANP!” says Anthony, who’s played with Hagar in Van Halen, Chickenfoot and as a solo artist. “She starts her treatment in about a week.”
David Lauser joined Hagar during his pre-Van Halen 1980s solo career, and has more recently been a member of his regular working band, the Waboritas.
Costs for Liza Lauser’s medical treatment continue to skyrocket, and so a pay-per-view benefit concert has been scheduled to help, Anthony says. The broadcast gives fans a chance to enjoy a February benefit show featuring Hagar and the Wabos, Jack Blades and Jesse Bradman of Night Ranger and Billy Sheehan of Mr. Big, recorded live from the Sweetwater Music Hall.
The concert is set for 7 p.m. PDT on May 7, 2014, and will be offered as a one-time-only streaming event. Tickets are available on a “pay as you wish” basis, Anthony adds. For more information about the pay-per-view concert, go here.
