Time for another legendary Budokan show? Following in the footsteps of Bob Dylan, Cheap Trick and, actually, the Ian Gillan Band, Deep Purple filmed and recorded its April 12, 2014 show in Tokyo for future release. The attached video confirms it.

Five songs from this concert, including “Black Night,” were also featured on Made in Japan, which focused on 1972 shows in Japan and Osaka. The April 12 Budokan date also included a number of tracks from Deep Purple’s most recent studio effort, Now What?! — including “Hell to Pay,” “Apres Vous,” “Vincent Price” and “Uncommon Man.” They show was rounded out by legacy favorites like “Smoke on the Water,” “Perfect Strangers,” “Space Truckin'” and “Hush.”

Deep Purple’s most recent live project — issued on both CD and DVD — was Live At Montreux 2011, record with an orchestra.

Gillan, who has fronted Deep Purple over three stints dating back to 1969, recorded his Budokan album in 1977. Cheap Trick issued their Tokyo show a year later, with Dylan at Budokan following in 1979. Ozzy Osbourne, Chic, John Haitt and Sheryl Crow are among those who have also recorded at the legendary venue.
