Van Morrison aids Wings and Joe Cocker guitarist Henry McCullough: ‘It’s a huge help’

Henry McCullough, the former Wings and Joe Cocker guitarist, is still dealing with the aftermath of a devastating heart attack suffered in late 2012, but he’s gotten some needed assistance from Van Morrison.

At first, it was unclear what path McCullough’s recovery would take; he was erroneously reported to have died, at one point. Then Denny Seiwell, a former bandmate in Paul McCartney and Wings, told us early last year that McCullough’s chances for meaningful recovery were slim.

A concert to raise funds on behalf of McCullough, 70, followed in Dublin.

Now comes new that a lack of oxygen following the episode has robbed McCullough of his ability to speak. Under need of constant care these days, he’s also been relegated to a wheelchair, according to The Mirror.

That’s made his wife Josie’s caretaking duties more difficult, in particular when it comes to bathing.

Now Morrison, a fellow Irishman, has stepped in with a generous donation: “He had a room in the couple’s home turned into a special wet room and Henry can now be pushed in there in his wheelchair and get washed,” the Mirror reports. “It’s a huge help to both him and Josie.”
