Dale Bozzio returns with an appropriately titled new album, since Missing in Action is the former Frank Zappa and Missing Persons singer’s first solo album since 2010.

Working this time with Billy Sherwood, a 1990s-era contributor to Yes, Bozzio has added a little more electronica to a hiccuping new wave sound that drove “Destination Unknown” and “Words” up the MTV playlist in the early 1980s — as heard on the lead single “Hello Hello.” Missing in Action is due March 4, 2014 via Cleopatra.

Bozzio was married to ex-Zappa drummer Terry Bozzio from 1979-86, and sang on the 1979 Zappa release Joe’s Garage as well as Thing-Fish from 1986. Bozzio’s 1980 vocal “I Don’t Wanna Get Drafted” eventually appeared on 1996’s The Lost Episodes, issued three years after Zappa’s untimely death.

She co-founded Missing Persons along with Terry Bozzio, along with fellow Zappa alum Warren Cuccurullo — reaching a high-water mark with 1982’s Spring Sessions M, which went gold. Famous at the time for her shock of neon-colored hair and a series of barely-there get ups, Bozzio later signed with Prince’s Paisley Park imprint as a solo artist, and has continued fronting Missing Persons — both with and without its original members.
