‘Planned to be even more spectacular’: Steven Wilson gets to work on follow up to Raven

Even as he takes stock of the most celebrated album in his burgeoning solo career, Steven Wilson is looking forward to his next project. The former Porcupine Tree and Blackfield frontman says he’s got big plans for 2014.

“This year will see the writing and recording of the follow up album to 2013’s The Raven that Refused to Sing,” Wilson says, promising “news, audio and video from those sessions when we have it, and next year will see a lot of touring with a new live show, planned to be even more spectacular than the one presented in 2013.”

Which is really saying something. The well-regarded Raven project became Wilson’s highest-ever charting solo work in seven countries, cracking the Top 30 in the UK, going Top 25 on the Dutch, Polish, Austrian and Finnish charts, and reaching No. 3 in Germany. A series of sold-out tour dates followed across the world.

Wilson calls The Raven a “personal high water mark,” remarking over how it has “subsequently become the most acclaimed and best selling album of my career. After more than 20 years and 30-40 albums, that is a humbling and extremely gratifying thing to be able to say.”
