‘Everything is moving forward’: Yes, Jon Davison is still working with Glass Hammer

Jon Davison’s heavy workload with Yes has kept him busy crisscrossing the globe performing a trio of the band’s 1970s-era albums. So where does that leave Glass Hammer?

Davison had been with the U.S. prog group since 2009, a few years before he began working with Yes as a replacement for Benoit David in 2012. Despite that, Glass Hammer has continued forward, releasing Perilous — though Davison was less involved with the construction of that project than he had been on previous albums like 2011’s Cor Cordium.

The overlapping positions reached a critical intersection in 2013 when both bands were booked for the Cruise to the Edge sea-faring concert event — and Davison was told he could only perform with Yes.

That led Glass Hammer — which was founded in the early 1990s by Steve Babb and Fred Schendel — to a return engagement with former frontman Carl Groves, who had first sung with the band in 2007. Since, the group has welcomed back previous vocalists Walter Moore (who joined in 2004) and Susie Bogdanowicz (with them off and on since 2001), as well.

So where does that leave Davison? The busy singer says he’s still working with Glass Hammer, as well.

Turns out, these reunions were all part of a larger plan for the next studio effort, which will be called Ode to Echo.

“We are doing a very special thing; a 20-year anniversary album — and every musician that was ever involved with Glass Hammer will participate,” Davison tells Lords of Metal. “That is really exciting and they are working on it right now. I already tracked some vocals and everything is moving forward.”
