‘So weird, but it’s fantastic’: Daryl Hall marvels over Rose Parade ride

Daryl Hall didn’t just participate in the 125th Tournament of Roses Parade today. His float, festooned as they all were with countless eye-popping flowers, actually replicated the set for Live from Daryl’s House.

“It’s incredible what they’ve done with these flowers,” Hall tells KTLA5. “They recreated the environment — the front yard, the backyard, the house, the swing. It’s so weird, but it’s fantastic.”

Hall appeared on the national broadcast for the parade singing Hall and Oates’ No. 5 1981 hit “You Make My Dreams.” Live from Daryl’s House, which features Hall playing music and spending time with a series of guests and friends, has been airing since 2007. “It sort of takes the whole performance idea, and turns it upside down,” Hall adds. “Because there’s no audience, people can really sort of be what they want to be. We talk, we play, we eat food. We have a good time.”

Asked to name some of his most memorable episodes of the show, which has moved from internet-only status to include broadcast on cable television’s Palladia and RFD networks, Hall says: “Every act, every show is fantastic — I have to say that — and unique. But if I have a favorite, it’s Smokey Robinson, one of my heroes. He helped me start out, so it was sort of a return to early days for me.”
