WTF?! Wednesdays: Jandek, “Bring It In A Manger” (1990)

It is Christmas day and what better way to celebrate than to give a listen to the only Christmas song ever recorded with the word “genitals” in it. Yes, the ever-mysterious and elusive Jandek returns to this space (inaugurated with Jandek’s One Last Chance) with what is easily one of the strangest Christmas tunes I’ve ever heard.

OK, there’s really no “tune” here because, hey, this is Jandek. And if you read the lyrics, maybe “Bring It In A Manger” is about the birth of Jesus…in a David Lynch/Jandek sort of way. Think of it as an antidote to David Hasseloff singing “The Christmas Song.”

By the way, I’m not exactly certain if this is the only Christmas song ever written employing the word “genitals.” But if you’re really bored, there’s always Google.

You questioned her legs, spread on the table
Vultures that prey in her bosom, cursed her questions
Said she was dead anyway
A virgin mild scream
She wasn’t dead, just wasted
Said I’ll find a true eagle some day
Give him my genitals in a paper cup
Give him my soul and rainbow
Lie you will, sing this song
Take a god from his list
Push a baby from these legs
Bring it to him in a manger
