‘Up and running again in a couple of months’: A positive prognosis for Fleetwood Mac’s John McVie

Even as she expressed a desire to return to work in Fleetwood Mac, Christine McVie offered upbeat news on her ex-husband John McVie, who’s ailing with cancer.

McVie confirms that the bassist’s “prognosis looks good,” in a talk with The Guardian. John McVie was diagnosed not long after Christine had an emotional reunion this year with Fleetwood Mac.

It was her first appearance with the band since 1998. Christine McVie, then going by her maiden name Perfect, officially joined as Fleetwood Mac issued 1970’s Kiln House — though she had added piano to the 1969 effort Then Play On. Christine’s “Over My Head” was the band’s first U.S. Top 20 hit in 1975; her biggest smash was the 1977 No. 3 “Don’t Stop,” which McVie returned to perform during that recent on-stage appearance in London.

Fleetwood Mac subsequently cancelled dates in Australia and New Zealand, as John McVie underwent cancer treatment. Christine says they expect him to “up and running again in a couple of months.” McVie and drummer Mick Fleetwood are the only members of the group to have appeared in all of its many incarnations over the years.
