‘She is the real deal’: Paul Stanley on the unlikely connection between Kiss and Lady Gaga

Color Paul Stanley impressed. Lady Gaga didn’t just travel cross country to see Kiss on their most recent U.S. tour. She showed up wearing the singer’s signature footwear.

“Those are big boots to fill,” Stanley tells George Lopez, “and she has little feet. So, she stuffed them. We had a gas. She’s really something else.”

It might seem an unlikely pairing, what with the generational and genre differences. But Kiss has long had an affinity for the pop star — and they do share a penchant for the flamboyant. That led Gene Simmons, who co-founded Kiss with Stanley in the early 1970s, to admit that the band considered recording a duet with Gaga.

“She wound up in the audience, with just a little bit of tape covering a few little bits, with little panties — and she was wearing my Kiss boots,” Stanley adds. “She was rocking. In a world filled with a lot of prefabricated people doing things that are similar, Gaga is the real deal.”
