‘I forget I’m supposed to be singing!’: Adam Lambert still finds himself in awe of Queen

Despite his having appeared more than half dozen times with Queen, Adam Lambert says he still finds himself caught off guard by the power and majesty of their music.

“Sometimes I find myself on stage, like, watching them like a fan — like, ‘Oh my God!,” Lambert says in this clip. “I forget: ‘Oh, yeah, I’m supposed to be singing!’ I’ll watch Roger and Brian just kill it. These guys are rock royalty. No one can deny that, or dispute that. They’re named Queen!”

Lambert, who’s taking over for the late Freddie Mercury, most recently appeared with Queen as part of September’s iHeart music event in Las Vegas. Since, he’s rekindled the acting bug that was actually a huge part of his life, before American Idol turned Lambert into a singing sensation in 2009.

Lambert is set to guest on TV’s Glee this Thursday night, singing “Marry the Night” by Lady Gaga in an episode called “A Katy or a Gaga.” His character Elliott Gilbert is nicknamed “Starchild.” Ironically, Lambert auditioned for Glee five years ago, but didn’t make the cut.

“I was drawn to Queen, and to Freddie, because of his theatricality,” Lambert adds. “It felt familiar to me, in a way. It was kind of marrying the best of both worlds — theater and rock ‘n’ roll.”
