‘I have a bet going, actually’: No, David Coverdale won’t be following you back on Twitter

You may have noticed, despite the crowd following David Coverdale on Twitter, that the legendary frontman of Deep Purple and Whitesnake actually follows no one else. There’s a reason for that.

“I have a bet going, actually,” Coverdale admits in this BBC video, “to see how far I can go with that. I get a lot of people I know who are furious. I go: ‘Nope, I don’t have time, sorry!'”

Coverdale, who was with Deep Purple from 1973-76, founded Whitesnake two years later — only to see the band go supernova in the 1980s.

Whitesnake’s most recent studio effort was 2011’s Forevermore; they issued the concert recording Made in Japan earlier this year.

The singer has some 26,000 followers hanging on every utterance around @davidcoverdale, where he can be found answering many of his fan’s comments and questions personally.

But, no, not following them back.

“For me, it’s an extraordinary opportunity to interact with people who actually support me work,” Coverdale adds. “That’s been impossible for most of the time.”
