Exclusive stream: Peter Frampton with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, “Gold Dust Woman” (2013)

Musical worlds collide in the most interesting of ways with this exclusive stream, as 1970s guitar god Peter Frampton joins the Royal Philharmonic to do a Fleetwood Mac song.

The orchestra welcomed Frampton for the closing track as they examined the 1977 classic-rock staple Rumours at Abbey Road Studios in London. Of course, 40 million copies later, there are few tracks here that haven’t become woven into the collective fabric of pop, and Stevie Nicks’ “Gold Dust Woman” is no different.

But the Royal Philharmonic is no stranger to such things, having previously taken on Pink Floyd, as well as Meat Loaf. In keeping, arranger James Graydon has taken a fresh approach throughout — providing new insights here and elsewhere into the timeless work of Lindsey Buckingham, Christine McVie and Co.

And the presence of Frampton (who was putting the finishing touches on I’m In You when Fleetwood Mac issued its 11th — and, by far, biggest selling — album) adds yet another new wrinkle to The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Plays Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, issued by Purple Pyramid-Cleopatra.
