Neal Finn is streaming a previously unreleased song called “Only Way to Go is Forwards” on his web site, giving fans a long-hoped-for chance to hear new music from Crowded House.

The track was performed live, during a trio of 2008 club appearances at the Leigh Sawmill Cafe, during the extended sessions for Crowded House’s Intriguer. “Only Way to Go Is Forwards” didn’t make the final track listing for that 2010 studio effort, however, and Finn’s band has been silent since.

Finn has kept busy, though, forming a side project with his wife Sharon called the Pajama Club, releasing a self-titled debut album in 2011. Last year, Finn’s “Song of the Lonely Mountain” was included in the film “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,” during the ending credits.

“Only Way to Go is Forwards” is the second in a series of rarities that Finn is calling “The Kitchen Sink II.”
