Streams: The Crimson ProjeKCt, “Dinosaur” from Official Bootleg Live 2012 (2013)

In the closest we’re likely to get to new stuff any time soon from King Crimson, the alumni-filled Crimson ProjeKCt turns in a nervy, tensile live take on this cut from 1995’s Thrak.

Adrian Belew, Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto — who last gathered in 1999 with Robert Fripp as King Crimson — were joined by Marcus Reuter, Tobias Ralph and Julie Slick on a Summer 2012 tour in support of Dream Theater that included a slew of classic Crim moments — from “Red” to “Indiscipline,” from “Elephant Talk” to “Frame by Frame.” This just-released stream of “Dinosour” is part of a new eight-song Official Bootleg Live 2012 from that tour, available via Belew’s site, and at iapetus.com.

Belew and Levin have been members of the now-dormant King Crimson since 1981; Mastelotto joined in 1994. This is the first ever official concert document from their offshoot Crimson ProjeKCt group, which just completed a short spring tour of Japan. They also appeared in April at the Baja Prog Festival.

Official Bootleg Live 2012 was recorded from board mixes, and then mastered by Lee Fletcher and Reuter. Slick and Ralph are members of Belew’s Power Trio, while Reuter is in the Stick Men with Levin.
