Something Else! sneak peek: Prince, “FIXURLIFEUP” from Plectrum Electrum (2013)

Always a proud individualist, the artist formerly known as the Artist Formerly Known As Prince, has a message on his new song: Be your own damned self.

This latest song to leak in advance Prince’s forthcoming new album is another nervy rocker, with a squalling vocal and this electrical storm of a guitar solo over a whipsawing bass cadence. But not before he offers this advice: “Don’t worry what the crowd does, just worry about being good at what you love.”

“FIXURLIFE UP” follows earlier leaks of the sex-as-food paean “Breakfast Can Wait,” and the nasty little blues-rocker “Screwdriver.” A rip from an on-air broadcast of “FIXURLIFEUP” (via the Ernest Experience program on CBC Canada) can be found here.

Presumably, these tracks are going to coalesce into a project tentatively titled Plectrum Electrum. In fact, Prince has been everywhere lately — after going some three years since releasing 20Ten, launching a web site, releasing previously unheard old songs, even appearing on the most recent Grammy awards show.
