One Track Mind: The National, “Don’t Swallow The Crap — er, Cap” from Trouble Will Find Me (2013)

The National are doing a great job of indirectly building up early Internet torque by releasing tune streams from their forthcoming album Trouble Will Find Me. Will this continue until release date? Are the residents of the corner suite at 4AD headquarters so enlightened? We shall see.

OK, so I really haven’t gotten to the meaning behind “Don’t Swallow The Crap.” As most people know, I’m more of a music than lyrics person, so the sounds must been given a thorough going over first. The music here is kind of Cure-lite, so I find all of the Interwebs fuss very perplexing. I kept waiting for something to happen in the introduction and it never did. Things did get a little more interesting later what with the wisps of strings that flashed here and there.

As for the words, even if I hadn’t passed them over, chances are I wouldn’t have provided a synopsis in this space: because there’s one thing about me that’s not well-known: I tend toward dyslexia and on first encounter, often misread words if not entire ideas.

Anyway, have at it:
