Glenn Hughes is not only confirming the breakup of Black Country Communion, but now says departing guitarist Joe Bonamassa is refusing to let the remaining members continue forward with the band name.
Hughes indicates, via Facebook, that he, Derek Sherinian and Jason Bonham plan to continue in some form — just not as Black Country Communion.
The roots of this acrimonious split pre-date BCC’s well-received current release, Afterglow. Bonamassa and Hughes got into a public spat over touring behind the album, even before it was issued.
After a cooling-off period, both seemed to be warming to the idea of trying again, at least in public statements. Bonamassa told Premier Guitar only that the band was “pretty much done,” seeming to hedge his bets. Hughes had struck an even more optimistic note earlier this year.
Apparently, something has changed between then and now.
“Just so it’s crystal: BCC is over,” Hughes says. “Joe left and will not allow us to keep the name — nice, huh? Jason, Derek and I will continue with a different name when the time is right.”
