Styx’s Tommy Shaw has just completed a video shoot with former Eagles guitarist Don Felder. “Wash Away,” which they co-wrote together, is the new single from Felder’s current solo effort Road to Forever.
“We talked a little, picked and sang some,” Shaw says, “and it reminded me how much I love the song and my friend.”
Road to Forever, Felder’s first solo effort since back in 1983, charted at No. 27 among Billboard Heatseekers last October. The first single, “Girls in Black,” also made the Top 30 of Mediabase’s rock charts.
The album featured guest appearances from members of Toto, ex-Journey sideman (and American Idol judge) Randy Jackson, and Crosby Still and Nash. But Shaw made arguably the biggest outside contribution, helping out on the track “Heal Me,” as well. He even joined Felder on stage back in October to sing “Wash Away.”
Felder, in an SER Sitdown last November, said he had gotten stuck on a lyric when he called Shaw.
A couple of days later, they had completed the songs.
“From there, we set up a mic in my studio, and he sang some harmony on it,” Felder told us. “Tommy is a dear friend of mine. He was in town in a rare moment when he wasn’t on the road.”
