One of two original songs on the forthcoming Eric Clapton album Old Sock has leaked. Titled “Gotta Get Over,” it’s a welcome throwback for fans of his initial post-1960s solo projects. [Looks like the sound has already been turned off; darn it!Eds.]

Clapton begins with a scurling riff, and a throwback polyester-era style bellow. “Gotta Get Over” stays right there, as a group of churchy background squealers joins in amidst a roadhouse-rattling groove. Twin guitars, one a squalling slide, then fill the song’s middle — taking us even further back to Clapton’s memorable collaborations with Duane Allman in Derek and the Dominos.

[SOMETHING ELSE! INTERVIEW: Longtime friend Chris Welch has written a new book titled ‘Clapton: The Ultimate Illustrated History’ that provides fascinating insights into Eric Clapton’s life and career.]

Elsewhere on Old Sock, due in March, Clapton covers songs by Lead Belly, George Gershwin, Peter Tosh, Gary Moore and J.J. Cale, among others. Cale also appears as a guest musician on the album, along with former Blind Faith bandmate Steve Winwood and Paul McCartney.

Old Sock was produced by Clapton and regular collaborators Doyle Bramhall II and Simon Climie. The album’s other original track is titled “Every Little Thing.”
