Exclusive stream: Steve Hackett with Angharad Bryn, “Lilly” from Beneath The Waves (2013)

When Rob Reed began conceptualizing his forthcoming 1970s-style epic prog-rock tale Beneath the Waves, Magenta’s frontman decided he’d need a high-concept band, too: The all-star Kompendium includes, among many others, Steve Hackett, who is featured on this exclusive advance stream.

“Lilly,” the ex-Genesis guitarist’s collaboration with newcomer Angharad Brinn, is but one of the highlights on a project that blends rock, classical and Celtic music into a sea-themed narrative of love, death and the afterlife.

Beneath the Waves, due on February 11, 2013, also features Porcupine Tree drummer Gavin Harrison, Nick Beggs (Steve Wilson, Kajagoogoo), Mel Collins (King Crimson), Jakko Jackzyk (20th Century Skitzoid Band) and singer Steve Balsamo (of Jesus Christ Superstar fame).

[SOMETHING ELSE! REWIND: Guitarist Steve Hackett joined us for a roving reminiscence about his time in Genesis, collaborating with members of Yes, and the sweeping influence of Bach.]

Members of Nightwish, Pendragon and the touring bands of Tears for Fears, Robert Plant and David Gilmour also appear, along with the English Chamber Choir, the London Session Orchestra, the Synergy vocal ensemble, and others. Chris Fry, Christina Booth and Steve Reed of Magenta also collaborated on Beneath the Waves, adding guitar, backing vocals and lyrics, respectively.

Beneath the Waves will be available as a limited edition CD featuring a bonus DVD with seven-inch gatefold sleeve, a special 20-page booklet and a 5.1 Surround Mix. There will also be a limited edition blue vinyl edition, also with a gatefold sleeve, as well as a digital download. For more, go to www.kompendium-web.com.
