Prince has launched a new web site, and it includes the full-length lyric video for his forthcoming song “Screwdriver.” Also featured is clip from the mercurial performer’s 2009 appearance at Montreux.
The often-mysterious Prince has suddenly become nearly ubiquitous, in the run up to a new album release. His last full-length studio release dates back to 2010. A pair of songs, one old and one new, have already recently surfaced.
Elsewhere on the new site, which is still under construction, fans will find a promo reel for the Prince-produced new album from Andy Allo, called Superconductor.
Now, he’s using a pair of fan bloggers to get the word out: Dr. Funkenberry previewed the new Prince site, with a post that said simply: “Shhh …, ” while 3rd Eye Girl has been posting photographs, and snippets of audio and video through Twitter and Facebook — including the stunning live taken on “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man” above, taken from one of Prince’s hastily called concerts in Chicago last year.
Meanwhile, Prince will adorn the cover of Billboard, in advance of his being officially given the magazine’s Icon Award for 2013.
Last week, Prince again announced a series of six shows, this time at Minneapolis’ Dakota Jazz Club, on a moment’s notice — only to see tickets snapped up in a single morning. A listening party for Prince’s new album was to follow today in Los Angeles.
