Don’t expect to get a whole lotta details from Jimmy Page on his long-awaited new solo album, scheduled for release sometime in 2013. The Led Zeppelin legend insists that saying too much only sets up false impressions.

“One of the worst things is, you say: I’m getting together with this musician and that musician or another musician, and they’ve already made up their mind of what it’s going to sound like — and they could be invariably disappointed,” Page says in the BBC interview embedded below. “At the moment I can tell you, I am still on my own. I haven’t pulled my musicians in, but I will be in the new year. Then, we’ll see what we shall see.”

Page hasn’t released a new studio album since Walking into Clarksdale, his 1998 collaboration with fellow Zeppelin alum Robert Plant. Since then, he has reworked older soundtracks for Lucifer Rising and Death Wish II, and various Led Zeppelin projects from the recent Celebration Day to a series of classic album reissues.

Page confirms that his as-yet-untitled new project will include the kind of eclecticism that fans have come to expect from his work both with Led Zeppelin and as a solo artist.

“As far as my teenage years of learning the guitar, I was trying to access anything that was of six strings, really,” Page says. “I was really taken by musicians’ interpretations through these various instruments. I took it on board, and it was quite a part of me. It’s quite an eclectic mix, therefore the intensity of one number will be totally to another. It’s always been part of me, so whatever I’m going to do next will always have all these different moods and shades and colors — because that’s really who I am.”

Though Page won’t go in depth on the specifics of his promised 2013 recording, he does confirm that the project will include all original songs — and travel across a broad spectrum of influences.

“I’ve got a lot of material for this,” Page adds. “I’ve written it myself, but the access points, the inspiration, still fits in with other cultures.”
