A case of E. coli for drummer Carl Palmer has forced the cancellation of Asia’s seven-date UK tour.
Asia, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary together, had already completed a series of well-received dates in Japan and North America. Palmer rose to fame as drummer with Emerson Lake and Palmer, before joining this subsequent supergroup in the early 1980s.
Asia was set to play at Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester and at London’s 02 Shepherds Bush Empire, among others, between December 15 and 22, 2012. Ticket refunds will be available at the point of purchase, according to the band’s public relations firm.

Frontman John Wetton had said he was particularly excited about the stop at Birmingham’s Town Hall, a staple during his 1970s touring days with King Crimson.
Asia is rounded out by Steve Howe (Yes, GTR) and Geoff Downes (Buggles, Yes). The group released its smash self-titled debut in 1982, and saw “Heat of the Moment” reach No. 4 on the Billboard charts. Asia became the best-selling album in the U.S. that year, spending nine weeks atop the album charts, and going four-times platinum.
In July, Asia released XXX, produced by Mike Paxman for Frontiers Records. The DVD concert film Resonance, from the band’s world tour in 2010-11, followed.
