Yes’ upcoming North American tour to include complete readings of three 1970s-era albums

Yes’ 2013 North American tour will feature a trio of 1970s-era albums, performed in their entirety — including The Yes Album from ’71, Close to the Edge from ’72 and Going for the One from ’77.

Yes begins this latest trek on March 1 in Nevada, then continues through Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York and Toronto, among others, before closing out on April 12 in Detroit.

A complete list of dates and concerts is below.

The band last performed one of its albums in concert back in 1973. Bassist Chris Squire, guitarist Steve Howe and drummer Alan White remain from that tour; they are joined by keyboardist Geoff Downes and new singer Jon Davison.

Davison, who also sings with the American prog group Glass Hammer, takes over a frontman position vacated by band co-founder Jon Anderson in 2008. Downes has played on both 1980’s Drama and last year’s well-received Fly From Here.

The Yes Album, a breakthrough moment for Yes as Howe joined the band, includes signature moments like “I’ve Seen All Good People,” “Starship Trooper” and “Yours Is No Disgrace.”

Close to the Edge, a career-making No. 3 hit album for Yes, includes the epic title track as well as “And You and I.”

The often-overlooked Going for the One, which saw the return of keyboardist Rick Wakeman for the first time since 1974, hit No. 8 on the U.S. charts, and had two songs go into the Top 25 — “Wonderous Stories” and the title cut.

“These albums we all easily agreed on,” Howe says. “They are complete works in themselves.”

Many of the deep cuts from these project have only rarely been performed live, and Squire says at least one — “A Venture,” from The Yes Album — will be making its stage debut. “Probably the most tricky of all the songs planned for this set is “Turn of the Century” from the Going for the One album,” Squire added.

“This is a great opportunity to show the growth of Yes in these different eras,” White says, “and to relive the memories of these times.”
