‘I sat next to this guy who hadn’t a clue who I was’: Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger makes Jay-Z quip during Brooklyn show

The Rolling Stones’ ’50 and Counting’ tour has reached the states, with Saturday’s December 8, 2012 show in Brooklyn, which included guest appearances by Mary J. Blige and Gary Clark Jr.

But something involving Jay-Z may just have been the evening’s highlight moment.

Clark joined the band for “Goin’ Down,” while Blige was part of the Stones’ rendition of “Gimme Shelter.” The Trinity Wall Street choir was also on hand for “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.” A complete set list, which mirrored the first London show — save for the reversal of their first two songs — is included below.

Blige had earlier been one of a number of guests during a pair of Stones concerts held last month at the 02 Arena in London, including Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Florence Welch and a pair of former band members in Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor. Clark, meanwhile, appeared with Stones frontman Mick Jagger earlier in 2012 during the Red, White and Blues concert held at the White House.

Back in London, Beck had performed during the Stones’ rendition of “Goin’ Down,” which the guitarist originally covered on the Jeff Beck Group project in 1972.

The Rolling Stones now prepare for two appearances in Newark N.J., the last of which will be televised via pay-per-view, as well as a stop at the 12-12-12 benefit concert for Sandy — to be held at Madison Square Garden. The Prudential Center stops are on December 13 and 15, 2012.

As he had during the 02 appearances, Jagger provided a series of memorable quips, at one point referencing a trending internet story when Jagger said he had arrived in Brooklyn via the subway: “I sat next to this guy who hadn’t a clue who I was,” he said, “Jay-Z.”
