‘We certainly aren’t current’: Brad Whitford jokes about aging Aerosmith, even as special Boston show is announced

Though Brad Whitford is describing their forthcoming Music from Another Dimension! as a “typical Aerosmith record,” they’ve apparently got something very special planned to celebrate.

The group has announced a street-party performance, somewhere in their hometown of Boston, to be held around noon on the day before the new record drops — November 5, 2012. That’s all the group has announced thus far.

Mix1041.com out of Boston is reporting that authorities have actually forbidden the group from making their plans known, likely because of worries over advance crowds in public places.

Meanwhile, Music From Another Dimension!, Aerosmith’s 15th studio effort — and their first with all-new songs in more than a decade — drops on November 6, which also happens to be Election Day in the States.

They reunited with classic-era producer Jack Douglas on the album, but there still have been various stops and starts in a period that saw frontman Steven Tyler ultimately quit his high-profile reality-TV judging gig on “American Idol.”

Otherwise, Whitford insists, everything is perfectly normal.

“It’s a typical Aerosmith record,” Whitford tells Martin Popoff of Brave Words, “in that it has a combination of many elements we like — from that country thing we did to hard rock, beautiful ballads, rhythm and blues. In that respect, it’s not much different from the other records that we like. But it’s very fresh, very current, for whatever reason, who knows? We certainly aren’t current (laughs). But we have the passion to make records, so we do it.”
