Neil Young once again played host to the Bridge School Benefit Concert over the weekend, presenting a series of acoustic acts for the 26th year to benefit the educational facility for children with disabilities.

The undisputed highlight was his hour-plus-long appearance with Crazy Horse. Their eight-song appearance included versions of tracks from Young’s forthcoming studio collaboration with Crazy Horse, Psychedelic Pill, which is due on October 30, 2012. Check out audio from the whole set here!

This year’s Bridge School event also featured appearances by Guns N’ Roses, the Flaming Lips, Jack White, k.d. Lang and Sarah McLachlan.

[SOMETHING ELSE! REVIEW: Neil Young’s fiery new collaboration with Crazy Horse takes a ruminative and lengthy – but never particularly nostalgic – look back at the decade of the 1960s.]

The Bridge School, which develops and implements instructional technologies for youth, was founded by Young’s wife Pegi, Jim Forderer and Marilyn Buzolich in 1986 — with start up funds generated from the very first benefit concert. The Youngs have been personally touched by childhood disabilities: Neil’s sons Zeke (from a previous relationship) and Ben both suffer with cerebral palsy, while their daughter Amber Jean shares her father’s condition of epilepsy.

Young opened at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California, over the weekend with “Love And Only Love,” followed by “Powderfinger” and “Born In Ontario”; then offered a trio of solo performances that included “The Needle And The Damage Done,” “Twisted Road” and “Singer Without A Song”; followed by “Ramada Inn” and “Like A Hurricane” and then an all-star version of “Rockin’ In The Free World.”
