‘Maybe a few friends will be joining us’: Rolling Stones hint at possibility of special guests during four new shows

The Rolling Stones, after months of on-again, off-again speculation, will play four mega-million dollar-grossing concerts as part of their 50th anniversary — two in London and two in the U.S. And they might be bringing along some special guests.

The Stones shows will be held on November 25 and 29, 2012 at the 02 Arena in London, and on December 13 and 15, 2012 in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center.

A possible set list, courtesy of StonesNews.com, is below.

A Billboard magazine report has said Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood — who just released “Gloom and Doom,” their first new music in six years — could be paid as much as $25 million for this quartet of appearances. Sir Richard Branson and Paul Dainty, the world’s No. 5 concert promoter, are said to be overseeing the shows.

A new promotional video, embedded above, ends with the teaser line: “Maybe a few friends will be joining us.” Speculation has been that the Stones might reunite with founding bassist Bill Wyman or 1970s-era guitarist Mick Taylor as part of their anniversary celebration.

The band took to Twitter @RollingStones on Sunday to get fans excited about the looming announcement: “Follow @grrregory, he’s got something to tell you!” The Stones then made the announcement this morning, both on Twitter and via YouTube.

Managers of the @grrregory account — named after the image the Stones have been using to promote their forthcoming greatest hits package — answered a query about possible guests with this tweet: “@Roberrrrrt Mr D, Mr G, Mr J, Mr R, Mr W & Mr W. Maybe even Mr W & Mr T. Definitely Mr L, Mr F, Mr J and Mr K.”

Mr. W could perhaps be Wyman, while Mr. T is possibly Taylor.

“Doom and Gloom” is the first of a pair of songs set for inclusion on the Stones’ best-of GRRR!, set for release on November 12, 2012.
