Something Else! sneak peek: Peter Blegvad and Andy Partridge, "Sacred Objects" (2012)

Hot on the heels of his collaboration (as songwriter) with guitarist/vocalist Mike Keneally, Andy Partridge has a second project due out soon with songwriter Peter Blegvad.

Gonwards is due in October from Partridge’s Ape House label, but there’s little other to go on than the just-released first song, “Sacred Objects.” Compared to the enjoyable, but odd experimental poetry album that Orpheus The Lowdown was, Gonwards seems at this first glance to be a bit less “weird” spoken-word and more sprechstimme, if you know what I mean.

Rather than hunker down and haunt you with a tale, Blegvad hops through the tune, but distances himself from what you might want to call “singing,” and obviously not “rap.” It’s sing-songy talk over jaunty, slow ragtime-ish instrumentation – perfectly fitting if you know Partridge’s particular stylistic leanings.

Orpheus proved such an unusual, if dark, treat and there’s little doubt Blegvad and Partridge will let us down with this one, either.
