Something Else! sneak peek: An unreleased track from late Boston singer Brad Delp!

An album is in the works that features previously unreleased songs by the late Boston lead singer Brad Delp, who would have been 61 on June 12, 2012.

Delp rose to fame as the voice behind such familiar Boston hits “More Than a Feeling,” “Foreplay/Long Time,” “Don’t Look Back” and “Amanda,” but apparently was in the midst of a crippling depression at the time of his suicide by carbon monoxide poisoning in 2007. According to authorities at the time, Delp left several notes, including one that said: “I am a lonely soul.”

Jenna Delp, his daughter, announced this long-awaited music project at the newly redesigned BradDelpFoundation.org. Included already on the site are new photographs and videos, with additional updates planned, she says. This forthcoming collection of rare tracks, she says, will include music from the early 1970s through the 1990s, both solo and with other collaborators — though none of them apparently including Boston. “These songs are a glimpse of the man, apart from the band, doing what he was born to do in the purest possible form,” Jenna Delp says, “and I can’t wait for you to hear it!”

To that end, the foundation is streaming a raw, unmastered tune called “Alone,” written by Delp in much happier days back in 1973, to be included in this as-yet-untitled set. Click HERE to listen!

“It’s the oldest recording we have, featuring my Dad along with Roger Carmody and Tom Febonio,” Jenna Delp says. “Listen carefully for the playful banter at the beginning between Dad and Roger, and the tiny little ‘chirp’ at the very end, which Roger tells me was actually Dad doing his best impression of a parakeet! Classic Brad!”

The new Delp music project has been delayed by outside forces for sometime: “Many of my Dad’s master tapes were damaged in a flood that took out a good part of his basement,” Jenna Delp says, in the new posting at BradDelpFoundation.org. “Thanks to the tireless efforts of his good friend Roger Carmody, who spent many months baking the mold off of the tapes (and getting sick in the process!), we’ve managed to salvage a great deal of these recordings and are finally now in the home stretch of this labor of love.”

Boston has sold more than 31 million albums in the U.S., including a staggering 17 million of their self-titled debut album alone. Founding guitarist Tom Scholz has recently announced a Boston tour for Summer 2012 — the first since since 2008, not long after Delp died at his home in Atkinson, New Hampshire.
