Sparks Fly On E Street: Bruce Springsteen, "Out In The Street" (1980)

Part of the magic of The River was the masterful combination of emotional, spiritually meaningful songs placed right alongside the garage rockers and party anthems. But hey, this isn’t to say that there’s no emotion involved in the latter. “Out In The Street” is a celebration of the end of the week, when it’s time to shed your work clothes and head out with your girl to look for some fun. That kind of release carries its own kind of emotion, maybe not of the “heavy” sort still, no less meaningful.

On recent tours, Bruce has pushed out the original singalong outro to include the audience for some extended call & response fun. (Check out the Hyde Park DVD for the reference standard on that). But here we have a Born In The U.S.A.-era version, with high energy vocal interactions, and a wicked sax solo by The Big Man.
