Tom Scholz wants to fit in some new Boston concert dates before the end of the world

Tom Scholz will rush Boston out on the road before the long-predicted apocalypse of 2012: “Just 10 months till the end … at least, till the end of the Mayan calendar, anyway,” he said in announcing a series of summer dates on Boston’s Web site.

Boston, best-known for the songs “More Than a Feeling,” “Foreplay/Long Time,” “Don’t Look Back” and “Amanda,” have sold more than 31 million albums in the U.S. – including a staggering 17 million of their self-titled debut album alone. Scholz hasn’t toured under the Boston banner since 2008, not long after original lead singer Brad Delp committed suicide at his home in Atkinson, New Hampshire.

“I wonder,” Scholz said, tongue firmly in cheek, “did they mean to prophesize the end of the world, or was the December 21st planetary alignment just a convenient place to stop chiseling stone tablets on a really long calendar project? Some people think it is the same thing, so why take a chance? If I was making a bucket list, it would definitely include going out one more time to play some Boston shows — before time runs out! So just to be safe, we are going to do exactly that.”

Here are the new Boston concert details …

June 28, 2012: Hollywood, FL, Seminole Hard Rock Live
June 29, 2012: Clearwater, FL, Ruth Eckerd Hall
June 30, 2012: Valdosta, GA, Wild Adventures Theme Park
July 1, 2012: St. Augustine, FL, The Saint Augustine Amphitheatre
July 3, 2012: Orlando, FL, Hard Rock Live Orlando
July 26, 2012: Rama, ON, Casino Rama
July 27, 2012: Belleville, ON, Empire Theatre
July 28, 2012: London, ON, Harris Park
Aug 1, 2012: Columbus, OH, Crew Stadium, Ohio State Fair

“I regret that we can’t play as many shows as we would like,” Scholz said, adding that more stops could be added soon. “If you can, come out to enjoy another night of Boston’s music before the next great coronal mass ejection.”
